Healthy New Year’s Resolutions for 2023

RAPID CARE ER

The beginning of a new year is an excellent time to set your health goals, give up some bad habits, and generally live a happier, healthier life.

However, setting healthy New Year’s Resolutions that you can achieve is not always easy. If you are unsure where to begin, we have a list of health goals for you to consider.

#5 Achieve a Healthy Weight

Many of us want to lose weight, but remember that how we lose those extra pounds is more important than how much we lose.

Before you set a number you want to see on the scale, talk to your doctor to find a realistic and healthy weight for you.

Losing weight using extreme diets and weight loss supplements can ultimately cause you to lose muscle mass and affect your overall health. Instead, your goal should be to learn to recognize emotional eating triggers and foods that cause bloating and weight gain so you can avoid them.

#4 Adopt Better Eating Habits

Healthy eating is more than just the foods you eat; it’s also how you eat them and how you approach food in general.

It goes without saying that eating a balanced diet that includes lean protein, vegetables, fruits, and whole grains is vital to staying healthy. These foods provide the necessary nutrients, vitamins, and minerals your body needs to function correctly.

However, how we eat and think about food is also important. For instance, eating too fast can cause you to overeat. Eating in front of the TV or at your desk can also result in overeating.

This year make it a goal to be mindful of the foods you eat. An excellent way to achieve this is to make it a habit to remove anything that can distract you while you eat, be it the TV, your phone, or your tablet. Instead, focus on the taste and texture of your meal, chew each bite carefully, and enjoy your meal.

#3 Move More

Most of us make the common mistake of trying to be too ambitious with our New Year’s resolutions. Instead of making a goal of joining a gym and training for 2 hours every day. Try making smaller goals that you can reevaluate and modify as needed.

The key to accomplishing your health goals for the new year is to be as detailed as possible and set a time frame. So, for instance, you can set a goal to walk for 30 minutes three times a week for the next month. Once you accomplish this, you can reevaluate your plan and see if you can add an extra day of walking or increase your walks to 45 minutes.

#2 Schedule an Annual Check-Up

Annual check-ups and screenings should be a priority, so make sure to include them in your list of resolutions.

Routine screenings and health check-ups are the best way to help your doctor to identify and treat health issues early. Remember, early treatment of illnesses improves the chances of a positive outcome.

#1 Create a Plan for Emergencies

Medical emergencies are a fact of life. They happen to anyone at any moment, but having a plan and knowing where to go can help save the life of someone you love. The following are items you should include in your plan.

  • Create a list of emergency contacts and nearby emergency rooms you trust
  • Establish a meeting point in case of a natural disaster
  • Make a list of medications everyone in your household is taking, and include any known allergies. This information is extremely helpful to emergency room staff
  • Know the signs of a medical emergency. You should call 911 or rush to the ER when you notice someone having trouble breathing, experiencing chest pains, loss of consciousness, feeling confused or dizzy, having difficulty speaking or understanding speech, having trouble walking or keeping one’s balance, head or neck trauma, visibly deformed limbs or joints after trauma, uncontrolled vomiting or diarrhea, unresponsive or lethargic infants

At Rapid Care ER, we wish you a Happy and Healthy 2023. Remember that our three locations are open 24/7 during the Holidays and every day of the year to help you during any medical emergency.
